John was born in Conroe, Texas, the fourth generation born in the state. He grew up on a cattle ranch and attended school in Cornoe, TX. After receiving his B.A. from Austin College in Sherman, TX he went on to receive his M.Div. from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Additional degrees are in Family Therapy and Participatory Management. John's winemaking interest goes back to his teenage years (14) when he produced his first wine. He have continued that interest as an amateur wine maker up to 1988 when John opened Weisinger's of Ashland and produced his first commercial vintage.
Throughout his career he has worked in highway construction throughout college, served as a Presbyterian minister, marriage and family counselor, commercial fisherman and trapper in Alaska, consulted with government agencies in teaching participatory management skills and Quality Circles. He has over the past 20 plus years consulted with vineyard and winery clients, teaching tasting room sales skills, leading retreats for staff, teaching wait staff in restaurants effective wine sales techniques, helping develop positive and creative income streams for wineries and twice appointed by the Governor of Oregon to serve on the Oregon Wine Board. On the OWB, John was involved in the creation of new marketing directions for the industry, getting Oregon Revised Statutes changed to open up opportunities of wineries to produce private labels and recently served as the chairman of the committee to revise the 1978 Oregon wine labeling laws.
Presently, John is working with Texas wineries to produce the best wines they can for the market from Texas grapes using creative blending practices.
